To the Memory of Mrs. Lefroy
who died Dec:r 16 … my Birthday.

The day returns again, my natal day;
What mix'd emotions with the Thought arise!
Beloved friend, four years have pass'd away
Since thou wert snatch'd forever from our eyes.--
The day, commemorative of my birth
Bestowing Life and Light and Hope on me,
Brings back the hour which was thy last on Earth.
Oh! bitter pang of torturing Memory!--

Angelic Woman! past my power to praise
In Language meet, thy Talents, Temper, mind.
Thy solid Worth, they captivating Grace!--
Thou friend and ornament of Humankind!--

At Johnson's death by Hamilton t'was said,
'Seek we a substitute--Ah! vain the plan,
No second best remains to Johnson dead--
None can remind us even of the Man.'

So we of thee--unequall'd in thy race
Unequall'd thou, as he the first of Men.
Vainly we wearch around the vacant place,
We ne'er may look upon thy like again.

Come then fond Fancy, thou indulgant Power,--
--Hope is desponding, chill, severe to thee!--
Bless thou, this little portion of an hour,
Let me behold her as she used to be.

I see her here, with all her smiles benign,
Her looks of eager Love, her accents sweet.
That voice and Countenance almost divine!--
Expression, Harmony, alike complete.--

I listen--'tis not sound alone--'tis sense,
'Tis Genius, Taste and Tenderness of Soul.
'Tis genuine warmth of heart without pretence
And purity of Mind that crowns the whole.

She speaks; 'tis Eloquence--that grace of Tongue
So rare, so lovely!--Never misapplied
By her to palliate Vice, or deck a Wrong,
She speaks and reasons but on Virtue's side.

Her's is the Engergy of Soul sincere.
Her Christian Spirit ignorant to feign,
Seeks but to comfort, heal, enlighten, chear,
Confer a pleasure, or prevent a pain.--

Can ought enhance such Goodness?--Yes, to me,
Her partial favour from my earliest years
Consummates all.--Ah! Give me yet to see
Her smile of Love.--the Vision diappears.

'Tis past and gone--We meet no more below.
Short is the Cheat of Fancy o'er the Tomb.
Oh! might I hope to equal Bliss to go!
To meet thee Angel! in thy future home!--

Fain would I feel an union in thy fate,

 Diana Ross werd geboren in Valletta, Malta
op 8 juli 1910 en is overleden op 4 mei 2000.
Ze was een Britse kinderboekenschrijfster.

Ze werd gedoopt op haar vaders schip.
Ze ging naar school in Engeland en in Parijs
en studeerde daarna geschiedenis in Cambridge.

Haar bekendste werk is de serie rondom
The Little Red Engine, waarvan de eerste
in 1942 werd gepubliceerd.
De illustraties hiervoor werden gemaakt door
de Poolse illustrators Jan Lewitt en George Him.
De serie is in de jaren '90 in het
Verenigd Koninkrijk opnieuw uitgebracht.

 
Diana Ross was born of British parents in Valletta Malta
on  8 July 1910 and was christened on board
her father's ship HMS Diana by the ship's chaplain.
Educated at Kensington High School, London;
Girton College Cambridge, B.A. (honours) in history 1932;
Central School of Art London 1933-35.
Married the photographer and interior designer
Anthony Denney in 1940 (divorced 1950)
twin daughters  and one son.
She died 4 May 2000 peacefully at home
in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

She is an American painter.
A fantasy artist, she is a former bodybuilder
and fantasy model for her husband, painter Boris Vallejo.

Nene Tina Thomas begon professioneel
te schilderen in 1994, toen ze benaderd werd door
Wizards of the Coast om bij te dragen aan
het populaire kaartspel "Magic: the Gathering."

I have been drawing and painting for most of my life,
but I began my professional career in 1994 when
I was approached by a company called Wizards
of the Coast to contribute work to the popular
Collectible Card Game called "Magic: the Gathering." 

She has three sisters and two brothers,
all of them artistic and musically talented.

 
Nene said: “Creating new artwork for the various
companies that feature my work on their
products keeps me very busy, but I am making
time to work on the project that I have
been imagining for over twenty years. 
It is called “The Zarryiostrom”, and will be a multi-part
fantasy novel featuring many of the characters that
I have painted over the years.  Last year my husband
started writing the first novel, and I started painting images
to go with it.  The first book, entitled “Powerborne”, is
nearly complete, and I couldn’t be more excited. 
It will take a couple of years to finish it, mainly because
my painting schedule is dominated by projects for
licensing companies, but when it is done it will be
extremely long, with (hopefully!) an illustration per chapter.
