Bother the Gnat
by A. Duncan Carse

A. Duncan Carse was an artist working in Britain,
of Norwegian/Scottish parents.
His two large works Birds of the Old World and Birds
of the New World were selected by Cunard in 1933
to be on their new flagship liner, the Queen Mary.
Documents are held in the National Archive.
He illustrated the Hans Christian Andersen
Fairytales 1912 edition. He exhibited with the British Council
at the Biennale in 1912.
Carse exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1904
and then regularly between 1922 and 1938.
He also exhibited at the Fine Art Society,
the London Salon and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.
He died in 1938.

Jie-Wei Zhou is a master realist whose brushwork
sings with a radiant Impressionistic quality.
Working in oil, watercolor, and acrylic,
he has won numerous awards, and has exhibited
widely in China and the United States.
Zhou was born in Shanghai P.R. China on October 10, 1962.

He began studying art in middle school
when his talent was recognized by his teachers.
Even as a child, he took a sketchbook wherever
he went, immersing himself in the study of light
and form. He studied both Russian and French
painting styles, earning first a Bachelor of Arts Degree
from the Shanghai Normal University
and a Masters in Fine Art from the
Shanghai Drama Institute in 1991.
He was one of only eleven students to do so,
in a city of thirteen million.

~Virgilio Tojetti

.
Tojetti, who was born in Rome, studied with his father,
the painter Domenico Tojetti, and in Paris with Gérôme
and Bouguereau. In 1870 he immigrated to America
and spent much of the rest of his life living and
working in San Francisco and New York City.
..
He exhibited with the Boston Art Club,
the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts,
National Academy
of Design, and the Brooklyn Art Association.
His work is found in a number of museum and
private collections, including the de Young Museum
in San Francisco. Tojetti painted murals for the
New York City residence of financier Charles T. Yerkes,
also for the Savoy Hotel, and Flagler College
(formerly the Ponce De Leon Hotel) in St. Augustine, Florida.
